چکیده

SIS100: For SIS100 modified versions of the fast-ramped superferric magnets of the Nuclotron synchrotron at JINR Dubna will be used. The original Nuclotron dipole magnets produce an overall AC loss at 4 K of about 38 W/m (standard cycle: Bmax=2 T, dB/dt = 4 T/s, repetition rate of 1 Hz). It is necessary to reduce the loss at cryogenic temperatures at least by a factor of 2, the corresponding R&D program to reach that goal, was started in 2001 [1]. The 3D field configuration at the end parts of the magnet was found to be an important source of thermal losses in the iron yoke, caused by eddy currents. These effects were studied in more detail, both experimentally and by FEM calculations [2-4].
